"Arthur Wilson Daves, Jr., born 11-10-33, in PHoenix, Arizona. He was raised and went to school there until he was 9 years old. He attended Balsz Grade School for grades 6-8, then attended Phoenix Union High School 9-12 and graduated in 1952. He gave his parents a hard time over his grades and going to school. He joined the Navy in 1952 and married in 1953. Soon after, he was shipped to Guam for 18 months. This was during the Korean War - never in real action. When he came back still in the service, they gave birth to their 1st child, JOhn Richard Daves (1955) in San Diego, California. When their son was 4 months old, Arthur was shipped to Japan for the remainder of his time in the service which amounted to 4 years.
When he got out of the service, he got a job at................... and at Renolds Alum, then into construction work which he liked very much but wasn't steady enough for a family which was increasing. They had a daughter, Darla Kay in 1957 and in 1961, a son Denise Carol and in 1965 another daughter, Delores Ann. By this time, construction was out and steady job was in. Arthur went to work for Salt River Project and worked there ....... years. They bought a house in Mesa, Arizona. When he was fed up with a job he hated he went to work for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. He loved his job. He is back in construction now, is a diabetic and has had his big toe on right foot amputated."
**From a letter from his wife to Mery (Burcham) Scott in 1982
"In 1957, in Page, Arizona, Art ran into 3 brothers with the name of Daves. He was surprised because he had never met anyone (even in the service) with the same name. Names were 1. Wade 2. Elmo and 3. ? They said 3 Daves Brothers built the own ship and came here from Whales. After arriving, they split up. One went to the Carolinas; one settled in New York and one went West and they never heard of him again.
PS. In the Book of Names from Whales, Daves is spelled Dafydd.
As ever, Pauline"
