The following biography was taken from a family history booklet written by Eva Lee Daves several years ago: page 51/52. There is also a photograph of Walter Andrew, Mary Jane, Grover Samuel and George Silas. I will try and scan it in.
"George Silas Daves was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, November 19, 1848. He came to Montgomery County with his parents, Alexander M. and Susannah K. (Scott) Daves when he wa about seven years old. They lived around Caddo Gap, Owley, and Mount Ida, Arkansas.
George married Cynthia "Kate" about 1866. There were two daughters: the older was Elizabeth; the name of the younger is unknown. Kate died about 1892 or 1893.
On December 16, 1894, George married Mary Jane Riley. They had six children: Grover Samuel, Walter Andrew, William Floyd, Dora, Odie, and Vistal. The latter two children died. Unfortunately, Mary Jane died about 1906.
Later George married Bittsey Taylor. This marriage ended in a divorce. About 1910, he married his cousin, Jossie Scott. They had one daughter, Eva Lee (Daves) Ford, who lives in Mena, Arkansas. **note, this is the author of this booklet.
George Daves was a hard working farmer. He raised cotton and corn on the land he owned between Lone Valley and Sims, Arkansas along the Ouachita River. George sold acreage for the Lone Valley Church and Cemetery for the sum of $1.00, so they could have a church. He sold his land at Sims, buying more land farther down the river on South Fork, known now as the Little Fir community.
Mr. Daves helped to build the schoolhouse, which served as a church and a community building. At first, this building was called the Daves School, later being changed to Little Fir. The cemetery was under the Daves name also. Later, it was changed to Little Fir Cemetery. The cemetery was vandalized--all the headstones were broken and replaced. When Ouchita Lake was built, the cemetery was moved to the Little Fir Cemetery from the Daves Cemetery. Many of the graves were marked "UNKNOWN."
George was a Christian. He died at the age of sixty-six November 20, 1914, after a.....(can't read remainder of sentence)...Cynthia and Mary Jane, one daughter. His two sons were buried in Fulton County near his homeplace.
The oldest son, Grover Samuel Daves married Della Shaw on December 12, 1916. They had one son Grady S. Daves. Grover was killed at the age of twenty-three while riding a horse, leaving his wife, Della and son Grady.
Grady and Dovie (Phillips) Daves live near Pine Ridge, a few miles out of Oden. They have three children: Della Romine Sheridan; Lavennia Green, Oden; and Gabriel? Daves, Valiant, Oklahoma. They have a ranch and cattle. One of Grady's pleasures is watching the grass and cattle grow on his farm.
